The risk of falling in Love!

I love you like a kid loves chocolate cake:)

To be in LOVE like that or to be loved like that would just rule forever.
Is that not what we are all yearning for?
Do we not seek out that true feeling of LOVE from the second we breathe as an infant?
We search our parents eyes for that look of LOVE. We smile because we know it makes them smile with the LOVE that they feel for us.

To LOVE or not to LOVE?
This is the question we all ponder through out life. We take huge risks every time we take that initial step towards that oh so special feeling.

Why do we innately yearn to be someones everything?
Why is it that we want nothing more than to feel like the LOVE of that special someones life?
Why do we spend our lives looking for that special person that will make our world seem like a dream?
We want nothing more than to feel safe and secure in our choice of partners. But how do we really know that this one is 'the one' we will LOVE unconditionally forever?
How do we know that this choice of LOVE will not leave us and break our heart?
How do we know that this LOVE will LOVE us when the chips are down and we are not that perfect person that they fell in LOVE with or that we once were?

Well I hate to sound like a wet blanket here on a cold night, but...........

Just a beautiful and thoughtful post. Sometimes it is so difficult to surrender to love. There are those of us who build up brick walls over time for what we perceive as safety. When the right person comes along, they can tear down those walls brick by brick through building trust and acceptance. It opens you to a world you thought was closed but now the horizons are so bright and vivid.

Thank you once again for your amazing insight. This post deserves to be read several times so that we can internalize all you have given us on a silver platter.

Hi Dorothy,

I like most of your articles. I've just read your latest regarding "The risk of falling in love". You really have the skill in writing. Wish I could do a fraction of you is enough to begin with.

Thanks for your advise as indicated in the Cbox message. I agree with you "Making yourself less will never make more".

Sending you my big hug and friendship love and hope to make you smile there.

When I fall in love I usually become so selfless. But until I learned to love myself first, it was the time that I felt totally well loved by someone.

Thanks for your wonderful insights D! have a wonderful Monday :)

Love is a wonderful thing. If you are not ready to take the risk, then you are not ready to fall in love.

bingkee said...

It's true that when you're in love, you're vulnerable and you know that there is a risk---but how else would you give meaning to your life without love. But one great thing about loving is that you give your heart without condition---just as God loves us.

Hi Ms D! It's me again...the cbox is too short for what I'm gonna write here...

1. I'm on an 8 years relationship and still counting
2. We trust each other. The relationship is such a
no-one-cheats-any-one (although it sounds unlikely...TRUST me, IT IS)and still going that way
3. We're living together for quite sometimes now
4. Life seems perfect this way where both of us are free to pursue our career anywhere we want (we once physique-ly separated for 1 year because of work) while at the same time we both know that there's someone waiting for us back home.
5. Our bed life (heheh) is amazing at the least for,oh yeah, these past 8 years...minus the 1 year
6. Bored with each other is not even an option in this relationship
7. Love is always around between us...so does lust... to the point that those who seen us together feel it too (the love, not the lust :P)
8. I adore her, she worships me. 40% of it due to the sexual life I guess...
9. We completes each other. In terms of work (I share with her, some of my projects sometimes) my part is to come up with the concept and general things while it is she who fill in the specifics/finishing and the results are always great (according to our clients).
10. No one controlling any one (in regards of your older post) we never even argue on anything...well, besides her fondness of Hugh Jackman, maybe...
11. Although not necessarily extra wealthy, our joint incomes are more than enough for our life style
12 I'm not afraid of commitment and so does she. If the time comes, none of us will object saying "I do".
13. Finally, considered all that, do you think what we have here is healthy? I mean, I never seen anyone I know having that kind of relationship. It's so perfect it almost freakish. It's so perfect no one seems to believe (in occasions where I or she recalled our love story to anyone who ask). It's so perfect I even can believe that I'm involved in this.
There's so much else I can share with you about our relationship but I think it's enough for now.
And in this relationship, I can say that LOVE is mere tools, and not the central issue at all. Love is only the trigger to start it all, and to fix things up when something went bad during the process (in fact, that trigger needs to be pulled several times during the whole process) But in the end, it is the bullet that hit the target, and no matter what, it's your hand that pulls the trigger and hold the gun.

Love is the most important feelings that we need to experience. It complete our whole being. If we are in the stage of being in-love our life revolved only in that person whatever risk we face no matter it is. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day Dorothy!

Hello Anonymous...
In answer to your question...do I think it sounds like you and your partner have a healthy relationship. ...YES!!!

You are fortunate to have found a compatible partner. Also it sounds like you both respect each other and are enjoying what and whom each other offers to the relationship instead of wanting someone or something other than what you have in each other.

Other relationships are different...as there are no two people alike nor are there any two relationships alike.

Love is the backbone of the relationship. It is as you say ....not everything but it is a vital key. It is what continues to give reason to overlook a lot of nonsensical or small stuff.
The glue that binds ect....

A relationship is healthy when both partners give equally and both respect each other as a separate person.

Have a very nice day!

Love the pic by the way. Love is funny. In my relationship, well, my fiance and I have been together for 7 years. It has become more of a convenience kind of thing.

Although, we are best friends, and that is what makes it work.

Sometime Love is telling your husband he needs to lose weight and learn how to meditate. That's how love looked like tonight for me. I could tell there was something he wanted to say to me too ... and didn't.

Often not saying anything is Love.

Somehow I don't see us ending up in that embrace on your website tonight. Maybe tomorrow night when I say something different to him when he gets home ...

Cheers!

I like what you wrote about being so vulnerable in love. I never really though about it, but for everyone who has already had their heart broken and lets themselves fall in love again it is really the ultimate in giving because they know the heartache that could result but they take the chance anyway.

You described the stages of relationships and those that always search for "newness" beautifully. We always used to say "the grass is greenest where you water it" but the rose image is much better.

Love is very beautiful, in love with the man is able to undergo their lives, with love, all will feel meaningful, but also with love, sometimes people can be lost in the embrace of sin.

HI Dorothy, I love your blog. There is so much words of wisdom and inspiration in your posts. I really agree that relationships ask us to contemplate "forever" as a way of life. In any relationship, and also for ourselves as a person, we really need time to reflect and contemplate what's working, what's not and how we can work it better. It is a very beautiful challenge.

I don't know what happened, but I thought I left a comment here before, also saying you can use and link the pictures in "The Joys of Simple Life". Thanks so much for appreciating my pictures.

Also, thank you so much for adding our new blog "The Salitype Society" to your blogroll.

As you have seen I too once shared my thoughts on Love in my relationships blog.. so will not write again.. but I was seeing a bengali movie on TV.. a new era movie... and there someone said..

to men Love is nothing but Lust!!

Now I do not have time to ponder on this statement though I am a man.. 1st because I do not have time .. and 2nd I suspect the film maker may be right.. to a great extent.. as long as he meant "love' as in a man wanting a woman for love.. and not loving a woman ..

If I love my wife.. and not want her for love.. if I am being clear.. then I may not even have sex with her every day or many days or at all after some time.. yes.. very difficult to visualise this situation perhaps from a western perspective ? or maybe from any perspective.. because so many psychologists have said marriage needs sex like a food.. but does it really? why not just needing love.. and can love not be devoid of sex?

If not then surely to men 'love' will be nothing but 'Lust' they will want a woman for lust and not for affection...

What do you think?
